Burn Them Down! FG Orders Shut Down Of Terrorists’ Social Media Accounts, Says POS Collaborators ‘Go Collect Soon
The Federal Government has ordered the takedown of social media accounts linked to terrorist groups, as part of renewed efforts to curb the use of digital platforms for propaganda, recruitment and fundraising.
Authorities say extremist groups have increasingly relied on social media to spread their messages, mobilise supporters and generate financial resources.
According to government officials, Nigeria is working closely with major technology companies such as TikTok and Facebook to identify and remove accounts associated with terrorist organisations.
The collaboration is aimed at strengthening online monitoring and ensuring that content promoting violence q extremism is swiftly taken down before it reaches a wide audience.
Security agencies noted that the use of social media by terrorists poses a serious threat to national security, especially as such platforms allow rapid dissemination of messages across borders.
The government said the crackdown is part of a broader counterterrorism strategy that combines military operations, intelligence gathering and digital surveillance.
In addition, the Federal Government issued a strong warning to individuals and businesses found to be collaborating with terrorists through financial channels, particularly Point of Sale (POS) operators.
Officials cautioned that any POS agent aiding terrorist activities, whether knowingly or through negligence, would face the full weight of the law.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the country and urged citizens to remain vigilant, report suspicious online activities and comply with financial regulations.
It also called on technology companies and financial institutions to deepen cooperation with security agencies in order to disrupt terrorist networks and protect public safety.
