NDLEA discovers cocaine, heroin hidden in fireproof safe boxes in Port Harcourt

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have discovered cocaine and heroin concealed in fireproof iron safe boxes during a raid on a suspected drug trafficking hotspot in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed the discovery in a post on X on Sunday.

According to Babafemi, the illicit drugs were found during a raid in the Abuja area of Port Harcourt, where suspected drug dealers allegedly used iron safe boxes, normally used to secure valuables, to store high value substances.

He said the boxes were apparently being used to protect the drugs from theft and damage.

Babafemi said NDLEA operatives discovered the unusual method of concealing the drugs during the operation.

He wrote, “Iron safe boxes are meant to preserve money, documents and jewellery against fire and theft, but NDLEA officers have discovered during a raid at the notorious Abuja area of Port Harcourt that drug dealers now stash high-value illicit drugs such as cocaine and heroin in same fireproof iron boxes.”

He also shared a video showing NDLEA operatives locating and opening one of the safe boxes during the operation.

The discovery forms part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to disrupt the activities of suspected drug traffickers and prevent the distribution of illicit substances across the country.
