Atiku claims he has evidence Tinubu is 90, vows to present it in court
The 2027 presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has claimed that he possesses evidence that President Bola Tinubu is 90 years old, saying he is prepared to present the evidence in court if necessary.
Atiku made the claim in an interview with the BBC published on Friday, while explaining his decision to continue pursuing his presidential ambition despite previous attempts and setbacks.
The former Vice President said his opposition to military rule and his past disqualifications from presidential contests were among the reasons he remained determined to seek the presidency.
He also maintained that he has a constitutional right to contest and said he was prepared to serve the country, citing his experience, competence and patriotism.
Atiku further criticised the Federal Government’s handling of insecurity, accusing the administration of failing in its responsibilities in the areas of defence and policing.
He promised to address the country’s insecurity challenges within one year if elected president.
Explaining why he believes he should be allowed to contest, Atiku said:
“You have a President who is 90 years old now and sick and I am healthy and strong. So why won’t I make myself available to serve my country?
“You went and voted for someone who is 90 years old. I have evidence that President Tinubu is 90 years old and I will present it in court.”
Atiku’s claim comes amid renewed political debates over the ages, health and capacity of leading contenders ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The former Vice President has remained one of the leading opposition figures seeking to challenge Tinubu at the 2027 polls.
He has previously defended his decision to continue contesting for the presidency, arguing that his experience in public service and his commitment to democracy qualify him to seek the nation’s highest office.
The 2027 presidential contest is expected to witness intense political activity as parties and candidates intensify their preparations ahead of the election.
