Public Concern: Oyo Police Command Speaks on Security Challenges, Assures Residents of Safety
The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, has addressed the recent spate of insecurity and rising cases of kidnapping recorded in some parts of the state.
The police chief spoke amid growing concerns from residents over repeated violent incidents involving armed men.
CP Haruna made his position known through the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, while reacting to recent developments that have heightened tension across the state.
He assured residents that the police command is fully aware of the security challenges and is taking steps to address them.
The police commissioner’s comments followed a series of disturbing incidents, including the kidnapping of a political figure and rights activist, as well as an attack on Oloka community.
These incidents have raised questions about the safety of residents and the effectiveness of security measures in affected areas.
Also contributing to the growing concern was the recent kidnapping of an Indian expatriate working with Aqua Triton Company in Ogunmakin, near Ibadan.
The incident reportedly occurred when yet-to-be-identified gunmen stormed the company’s facility in a commando-style operation.
During the attack, the assailants were said to have killed a police officer attached to the facility before abducting the expatriate and escaping.
The incident has drawn widespread condemnation and renewed calls for improved security around industrial and residential areas.
According to DSP Ayanlade, CP Haruna reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
He noted that investigations into the recent incidents are ongoing and that efforts are being intensified to apprehend those responsible.
The police commissioner appealed to residents of Oyo State to support the command by providing useful and timely information.
He urged members of the public to report any suspicious movements or activities in their communities, stressing that effective policing requires the cooperation of all stakeholders.
As anxiety continues to mount across affected communities, the police command reiterated that sustained collaboration between security agencies and residents remains crucial to restoring peace in Oyo State, assuring the public that proactive measures are being strengthened to curb criminal activities and prevent further kidnappings.
