Super Falcons Hammer Egypt 6–2 to Book WAFCON Quarter Final Berth
Nigeria’s Super Falcons produced a commanding performance on Wednesday, defeating Egypt 6–2 to secure a place in the quarter finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The emphatic victory saw the reigning African champions bounce into the knockout stage with renewed confidence after an inconsistent start to the tournament. Nigeria’s attacking display proved too much for the Egyptians, who struggled to contain the Falcons throughout the encounter.
Asisat Oshoala opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Gift Monday doubled Nigeria’s advantage. Egypt responded through Nadine Ghazy, who converted a penalty to reduce the deficit, but the Super Falcons maintained control of the contest.
Uchenna Kanu and Chidinma Ucheibe extended Nigeria’s lead in the second half, with Ucheibe also finding the net from the penalty spot. Ghazy grabbed her second goal late in the game for Egypt, but Nigeria finished strongly.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade converted another penalty deep into stoppage time before Joy Omewa added the sixth goal to complete an impressive 6–2 victory for the nine-time African champions.
The result secured Nigeria’s qualification for the quarter finals, where the Super Falcons will face Cameroon in what promises to be a keenly contested fixture.
With six goals scored and attacking confidence restored, the Super Falcons will be hoping to build on their momentum as they continue their quest to reclaim the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title.
