‎Governor Makinde to Deploy 50 Electric Buses, Reaffirms Commitment to Affordable Transportation, Fiscal Sustainability

‎Oyo State Governor, engineer Seyi Makinde has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to affordable public transportation, fiscal sustainability and citizen-driven development, disclosing that the state government is expecting the delivery of 50 electric buses to improve mobility and reduce transportation costs across the state.

‎The governor said that once delivered, the buses would be deployed on intra city routes and across local government areas to make public transportation more affordable and accessible for residents, while also supporting the state’s drive towards cleaner and more sustainable transportation.

‎Makinde made the disclosure during the presentation of the state’s first and second quarter 2026 budget performance reports on revenue and expenditure to stakeholders.

‎The event, organised by the Oyo State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, was held at the government Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan on Wednesday.

‎The governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde, said his administration remains committed to prudent financial management, transparent governance and inclusive development, adding that the government continues to monitor both revenue generation and expenditure to ensure that sectors requiring additional funding receive the necessary support before the end of the fiscal year.

‎According to him, the 2026 budget framework is focused on achieving the state’s revenue targets while implementing a 77.5 per cent expenditure plan, with emphasis placed on projects capable of generating significant economic and social benefits for the people.

‎He called on residents to continue supporting government programmes and policies, assuring them that a high-level committee is already working to address the major concerns and recommendations raised by stakeholders during the budget performance presentation.
