NYSC Makes NERD Clearance Mandatory for Prospective Corps Members
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that prospective corps members (PCMs) must obtain clearance from the National Electronic Registration Database (NERD) before they can be mobilised for national service.
The directive was issued as the scheme intensifies preparations for the mobilisation of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ prospective corps members. The NYSC said the new requirement is aimed at strengthening its verification process and ensuring a seamless mobilisation exercise.
In a public notice shared on its official X handle on Monday, the scheme stressed that NERD clearance is now a compulsory requirement for all prospective corps members, urging eligible graduates to complete the process well ahead of the mobilisation exercise.
“This is to inform Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) that without NERD clearance, there will be no NYSC. Get your NERD clearance early and avoid delays in your mobilisation,” the scheme stated.
The NYSC further reiterated that no prospective corps member would be allowed to participate in the national service programme without the required clearance, emphasizing that compliance with the directive is mandatory for all eligible graduates.
Although the scheme did not provide further details on the NERD clearance process, it advised prospective corps members to complete all registration and verification requirements promptly to avoid disruptions during mobilisation.
The latest directive comes shortly after the NYSC announced the commencement of mobilisation activities for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ service year and urged tertiary institutions as well as eligible graduates to conclude all necessary documentation before the orientation exercise.
The scheme also recently reminded prospective corps members to prioritise their safety while travelling to orientation camps across the country. It advised them against embarking on night journeys, urging them instead to break their trips where necessary and lodge in safe locations or recognised military and security formations.
“Prospective corps members are advised not to travel at night. Where a journey cannot be completed before dark, they should stop over at safe locations or designated military and security formations rather than expose themselves to avoidable risks,” the NYSC advised.
The renewed advisories underscore the scheme’s determination to enhance the credibility of its mobilisation process while ensuring the safety and welfare of prospective corps members amid ongoing security concerns on major highways across the country.
With mobilisation activities already underway, the NYSC urged all prospective corps members to complete every required registration, verification and clearance process, including the newly introduced NERD clearance, before reporting to their respective orientation camps.
