Osun 2026: INEC Fixes August 1 Mock Accreditation Across 12 LGAs Ahead of Governorship Poll
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled Friday, August 1, 2026, for a mock accreditation exercise across 12 local government areas in Osun State as part of preparations for the August 15 governorship election.
The electoral commission said the exercise is aimed at testing the efficiency and functionality of its Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) under conditions similar to those expected on election day.
In a public notice issued on Sunday, Ariyo Rufus, Head of the Department of Voter Education, Publicity, Gender and Inclusivity in Osun State, said 36 polling units have been selected for the exercise, with four local government areas chosen from each of the state’s three senatorial districts.
According to the commission, the exercise will hold in Osogbo, Olorunda, Ifelodun and Boripe Local Government Areas in Osun Central Senatorial District; Ilesa West, Ilesa East, Oriade and Obokun in Osun East; and Egbedore, Ede North, Ede South and Ejigbo in Osun West Senatorial District.
INEC explained that the mock accreditation forms part of its readiness assessment for the forthcoming governorship election and will provide an opportunity to evaluate the performance of the BVAS before the poll.
“This exercise is designed to test the functionality and efficiency of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) under conditions similar to Election Day. There shall be no voting during the exercise,” the commission stated.
INEC urged all registered voters in the selected polling units to participate, stressing that only those with valid Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) would be accredited during the exercise.
The commission reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a free, fair, credible, transparent and inclusive governorship election in Osun State on August 15, 2026.
