‎Hero Dies at 92: President Tinubu, Nigerians Mourn Imam Who Sheltered About 300 Christians During Plateau Killings

‎President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Imam Abdullahi Abubakar, the Chief Imam of Nghar village in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State. The revered cleric passed away at the age of 92.

‎Imam Abubakar gained national and international recognition in 2018 after he courageously sheltered more than 300 Christians during the deadly communal violence that engulfed parts of Plateau State.

‎In a statement, President Tinubu described the late Imam as an extraordinary religious leader whose life was a powerful testament to faith, courage, and an unwavering belief in the sanctity of human life.

‎“At a time when tribal and religious sentiments threatened to overwhelm reason, Imam Abubakar stood firmly on the side of peace, compassion, and conscience,” the President said.

‎“Despite the enormous risk to his own life, the noble cleric chose humanity over division, love over hatred, and embrace over rejection. His heroic action embodies the true essence of faith and speaks louder than any sermon, delivering a profound message to the world. Imam Abubakar represents the kind of human being we should all aspire to be,” Tinubu added.

‎The President noted that the Imam’s uncommon bravery did not go unnoticed, as he received both local and international honours in recognition of his commitment to peaceful coexistence among people of diverse faiths and backgrounds.

‎Many Nigerians also joined the President in mourning the passing of the revered cleric, urging religious and community leaders to emulate his example by promoting tolerance, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence values that Imam Abdullahi Abubakar exemplified throughout his life.
