A prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and influential Ibadan Mogaji, Abass Oloko, has resigned from the party, bringing an end to his long-standing association with the ruling party in Oyo State.
Oloko announced his resignation while speaking with Goalpoachernews from New York, United States, on Thursday.
He dismissed speculations linking him with the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), stressing that he had never joined the party and that the reported PDP/APM alliance does not align with his political ideology.
”I have resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party. I have also not joined the APM as being speculated in some quarters. The PDP/APM alliance does not conform with my political ideology,” Oloko said.
The Ibadan political heavyweight, however, declined to disclose his next political move, saying he would make his new political destination public after returning from his vacation in the United States.
”I will unveil my next political destination as soon as I return from my vacation in America. For now, I want to appreciate everyone who has stood by me over the years and ask my supporters to remain calm while we conclude our consultations,” he added.
Until his resignation, Oloko was regarded as one of the most influential political figures within the PDP in Ibadan and a close ally of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.
His political structure has remained a formidable force in the state’s political landscape, making his exit a significant development ahead of future political realignments.
His resignation is expected to fuel fresh speculation over his next political destination, especially as political parties intensify consultations and reposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Recall that during last year’s Omituntun Ramadan Lecture, Governor Makinde publicly appealed to Mogaji Abass Oloko not to remove his billboard located at Isale Alfa, a gesture widely interpreted as a reflection of the cordial relationship that existed between both political figures at the time.
With his resignation from the PDP, attention is now focused on where the Ibadan political juggernaut will pitch his tent next.
