World Cup 2026: Messi named best footballer of all-time
Argentina forward Giuliano Simeone has described teammate Lionel Messi as the greatest footballer of all time following the veteran’s match-winning display in the FIFA World Cup.
Messi came off the bench to score a stunning free-kick as Argentina defeated Jordan 3-1 in their Group stage clash on Saturday, further enhancing his remarkable international legacy.
Reacting after the match, Simeone praised the 39-year-old Inter Miami captain, saying the forward continues to prove why he is regarded as the greatest player in football history.
“There’s not much left to say about him; he really is the best in the world, the best of all time, and he keeps proving it,” Simeone told FIFA’s official website.
“It’s incredible. I see it day to day: how he trains, how he takes care of himself. Everything he does is impressive, and he has a special kind of magic.”
Messi’s latest goal adds to an already memorable World Cup campaign for the defending champions, who have advanced to the Round of 32.
Argentina will now take on Cape Verde on Friday for a place in the last 16, with Messi expected to play a key role as Lionel Scaloni’s side continues its title defence.
