Tunisia, Haiti, Türkiye Crash Out of 2026 FIFA World Cup; On A Straight Line Back to Their Countries
At least three countries have been eliminated from the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup following disappointing results in their opening two group-stage matches.
Tunisia became the latest team to exit the tournament after suffering a crushing 4-0 defeat to Japan in a Group F encounter at Monterrey Stadium on Sunday.
The North Africans joined Haiti and Türkiye as the first nations to be knocked out of the expanded World Cup.
The Carthage Eagles had earlier endured a heavy 5-1 loss to Sweden in their opening fixture and were unable to recover, failing to earn a single point from their first two matches.
With only one group game remaining and a maximum of three points still available, Tunisia can no longer secure qualification for the Round of 32.
In Group C, five-time world champions Brazil sealed Haiti’s fate with a comfortable 3-0 victory in Philadelphia.
The defeat left the Caribbean side rooted to the bottom of the group with no points from two matches and a goal difference of minus four. Haiti’s final group fixture against Morocco on June 24 will serve only as a formality.
Türkiye also bowed out of the competition after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Paraguay in a Group D clash at the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium.
The loss marked Türkiye’s second consecutive defeat of the tournament, leaving them without a point and mathematically unable to advance to the knockout stage despite having one group match left to play.
The eliminations underline the intense competition at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with several teams already seeing their hopes of progressing extinguished before the conclusion of the group phase.
