Gov. Makinde Pledges Immediate Increased Support for All Security Agencies, Says Police Violent Crimes Unit Has Demonstrated Excellence, They Will See Government Hand Too
Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing security agencies with the logistics and resources required to effectively discharge their duties, pledging increased support for the newly established Police Violent Crimes Unit (VCU) following its recent successes in tackling criminal activities across the state.
The governor made the pledge while speaking on the performance of the VCU, which was set up about two months ago as part of efforts to strengthen the fight against kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes in Oyo State.
Makinde commended the unit for demonstrating agility, professionalism and operational capacity within a short period of its establishment, noting that it had already delivered significant results in the state’s security landscape.
He specifically cited the successful rescue operation involving Mrs. Raya Adelabu, the sister of a former Minister of Power, and her children, who were abducted by kidnappers. According to the governor, the VCU, working under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, was able to track down and apprehend those responsible within a remarkably short period.
“The Violent Crimes Unit has worked in other states. They were the ones who, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, busted the people who kidnapped Raya Adelabu and her children and were able to solve the case within a very short period of time,” Makinde said.
The governor noted that while the unit has recorded commendable achievements, it requires additional resources to sustain and expand its operations.
“We know they need more resources. We are prepared to support them because they have demonstrated their agility and capacity. That initiative is standing out, and for us in Oyo State, if we can deepen it, I believe it will further strengthen our security efforts,” he added.
Makinde reiterated that his administration would continue to collaborate closely with all security agencies operating in the state, stressing that ensuring the safety of lives and property remains a top priority of his government.
He maintained that the state government would not relent in providing the necessary support, equipment and logistics needed by security operatives to combat crime and maintain peace across Oyo State.
The governor’s remarks underscore the state government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening security architecture and enhancing the capacity of law enforcement agencies to respond swiftly and effectively to emerging security challenges.
