Group Raises Concerns Over Infrastructure Development in Ona-Ara Communities, Seeks Clarification on Ilaji Corridor Projects

A Muslim advocacy organisation, the Oyo Muslim Development Forum (OMDF), has called on the Oyo State Government to clarify the status of infrastructure projects within parts of the Ona-Ara area, expressing concerns over what it described as growing public speculation surrounding ongoing developments in the corridor.

The group made its position known in a statement issued in Ibadan on Thursday, where it urged authorities to provide updates on road and infrastructure projects serving communities around Ilaji Hotels and Resorts and other parts of the axis.

According to the forum, residents and stakeholders have raised questions about the pace and status of some projects in the area, prompting calls for greater public communication from the government.

Speaking on behalf of the organisation, its coordinator, Alhaji AbdulRasheed Adebisi, said infrastructure development should remain focused on the needs of residents and the broader economic interests of the state.

“We have observed discussions among residents and stakeholders regarding some projects within the Ona-Ara corridor. Given the importance of these projects to transportation, commerce, tourism and investment, we believe it is important for the government to provide clarification on their status,” he said.

The group noted that communities within the area stand to benefit significantly from improved infrastructure, adding that road projects and other developmental initiatives could enhance economic activities and improve access to key locations.

OMDF also urged political stakeholders to ensure that public discourse ahead of the 2027 governorship election remains peaceful and constructive.

The organisation stressed that Oyo State has a longstanding tradition of religious harmony and political tolerance, urging residents and political actors to avoid actions or statements that could heighten tensions along political or religious lines.

The forum further maintained that all citizens have the constitutional right to participate in the democratic process and support candidates of their choice, while emphasising the need for governance and development efforts to continue without distraction.

As of the time of filing this report, the Oyo State Government had not issued an official response to the concerns raised by the group. Likewise, no statement had been released by representatives of Ibadan-based businessman and philanthropist, Engr. Dotun Sanusi, regarding the issues highlighted in the statement.
