INEC Resumes Voter Registration Second Phase in Oyo, Introduces Mobile Units to Boost Access
By Micheal Oladejo
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Oyo State has officially resumed the second phase of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
The exercise, which recommenced on Monday, 5th January 2026, is taking place across all 33 INEC Local Government Area offices and the State Office in Ibadan. This phase allows for both online pre-registration and in-person physical registration for eligible citizens.
According to a statement released by the State’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Adeniran Rahmon Tella, this phase of registration is scheduled to run until the 17th of April, 2026.
The timeline is in accordance with the commission’s approved schedule for the exercise, providing a window of several months for residents to complete their registration.
In a key move to improve accessibility, the Commission has approved a 50-day rotation plan for its Voter Enrolment Device (IVED) machines across 351 Registration Areas in the state.
Prof. Tella explained that this mobile strategy is a direct response to challenges encountered during the first phase, where potential registrants in remote areas faced difficulties due to long distances to registration centers and tough terrain.
The REC called on all eligible citizens who have just attained the voting age of 18, or who have never registered before, to seize the opportunity of the ongoing exercise. He also clarified that the process is not only for new registrations but also serves other critical electoral purposes.
Furthermore, Prof. Tella stated that the exercise accommodates individuals who have yet to collect their unclaimed Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), advising them to visit their local INEC office.
The CVR also provides a window for those with damaged or lost PVCs, as well as registered voters who wish to transfer their polling units within the same Ward, Local Government, or State.
