Fear continues to grip Ahoro-Esinele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State following Friday’s coordinated bandit attack on schools, as the death toll has risen to two after an okada rider who reportedly resisted attempts to seize his motorcycle was confirmed shot dead.

The attack, which targeted Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, and Community Grammar School/L.A Primary School, Esiele, initially left a teacher dead before the latest confirmation of another fatality involving a commercial motorcycle rider during the early morning raid.

Several pupils, students and school staff were also abducted during the assault, which threw the community into panic as armed attackers stormed the schools and surrounding areas.

The victims abducted include the vice principal of the school, Mrs. Alamu Folawe, alongside other pupils, students, and staff members.

The state Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, has led tactical operatives and other security commanders to the scene for an on-the-spot assessment and coordinated rescue operations.

The Nigeria Police Force command in the state said additional tactical teams and intelligence assets have been deployed to the affected communities to rescue the abducted victims and track down the perpetrators.

Residents have also been urged to remain calm and provide credible information that could assist ongoing rescue efforts and investigations as security operations continue in the area.
