The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB) has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic attack on LA School and Community Grammar School in Ahoro-Esinele, Oriire LGUBEA, which reportedly led to the killing of a teacher and the abduction of several pupils.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Executive Chairman of OYOSUBEB, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, described the incident as a painful moment for the education sector in Oyo State, extending condolences to the affected families, teachers, and the entire Ahoro-Esinele community.

According to the Board, the exact number of abducted pupils has yet to be confirmed, as security operatives continue search and rescue operations in the affected areas.

Adeniran assured parents and stakeholders that the safety of schoolchildren remains a top priority, adding that security agencies, under the coordination of the Commissioner of Police and in collaboration with the state Ministry of Education, are fully responding to the situation.

He disclosed that a tactical response team has been deployed, while intelligence and security operations are ongoing to ensure the safe return of the abducted pupils and restore calm to the community.

As a precautionary measure, OYOSUBEB directed all primary schools in neighbouring local government areas, including Surulere, Oyo East, Oriire, and Olorunsogo, to shut down temporarily pending further directives.

The Board appealed to parents, guardians, and community leaders to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing panic.

OYOSUBEB also paid tribute to the slain teacher, describing his service and dedication as invaluable and assuring residents that efforts would continue until all affected pupils are safely rescued.
