Gov. Makinde Explains Choice of Bimbo Adekanmbi as Successor at Tourism Summit, Says He Is Blind to Party but Driven by Capacity
Oyo State Governor, engineer Seyi Makinde has explained the rationale behind his decision to support Bimbo Adekanmbi as his preferred successor, stating that competence, loyalty, and capacity to deliver remain the major considerations for leadership in the state.
Makinde made the remarks during the International Tourism Summit Oyo State 2026 held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, Ibadan on Wednesday.
The governor said his administration remains focused on identifying individuals with the ability and commitment to advance the development of Oyo State, regardless of political affiliation.
He added that his government does not prioritise party differences in governance decisions despite growing discussions over the emergence of Bimbo Adekanmbi as his preferred successor ahead of the 2027 governorship race.
The summit, where the governor addressed concerns raised by citizens and political stakeholders as regards his successor, attracted key stakeholders in tourism, governance, and investment, including Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal and Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde, alongside commissioners, investors, and tourism industry players.
The three-day event is expected to feature investment discussions, partnership engagements, and tourism development initiatives aimed at boosting Oyo State’s economy.
