NBBF Appoints David Fizdale as D’Tigers Head Coach
The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has announced the appointment of American basketball coach David Fizdale as the new head coach of Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers.
Fizdale’s appointment followed the recommendation of the NBBF Technical Committee as part of efforts to strengthen the national team ahead of future international competitions.
The 51-year-old has spent most of his coaching career in the National Basketball Association (NBA), where he has built a reputation as an experienced tactician and player developer.
He began his coaching career with the San Diego Clippers in 1998 and has since worked with several NBA franchises in different coaching capacities.
Fizdale most recently served as an assistant coach with the Phoenix Suns before leaving the role last year.
According to the NBBF, the former NBA head coach is expected to contribute significantly to coaches’ education, player development pathways, and the overall technical growth of basketball in Nigeria.
His appointment is seen as a major step in the federation’s drive to reposition Nigerian basketball on the global stage.
