Governor Makinde Activates Plan B, Foot Soldiers Begin to Decamp to Parties Already Prepared
Fresh political developments in Oyo State have continued to fuel speculations that Governor Seyi Makinde may have activated a strategic “Plan B” ahead of the 2027 general elections, as some of his loyal political foot soldiers have begun quietly leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for other political platforms believed to be battle-ready.
The latest indication emerged with the resignation of the Executive Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Engr. Akeem Olatunji, from the PDP.
Olatunji’s resignation was contained in a letter dated May 5 and addressed to the PDP Ward 7 Chairman, Mr. Mojeed Raji Iyan.
Though the council boss did not officially disclose his next political destination, sources within the state political structure revealed that the move may not be isolated from ongoing strategic consultations among key loyalists of Governor Makinde amid uncertainty surrounding the future of the PDP at the national level.
It is believed that the recent wave of silent alignments and calculated defections among prominent grassroots mobilisers signals the possible activation of alternative political structures by forces loyal to the governor.
The development is also coming at a time when internal disagreements, leadership crises, and coalition talks continue to shape conversations within the PDP across the country.
In his resignation letter, Olatunji appreciated the PDP leadership at different levels for the opportunity to serve under the platform.
He specifically thanked the Oyo State PDP Chairman, Hon. Dayo Ogungbenro, and the State Vice Chairman, Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke, for their support and cooperation throughout his stay in the party.
He also paid glowing tribute to Otunba Seye Famojuro, whom he described as his political benefactor and one of the strongest pillars behind his political growth.
The Oluyole chairman, however, assured his supporters that consultations were still ongoing with political stakeholders and leaders across the local government before a final public declaration on his next political move.
The unfolding events may be the early signs of a wider political recalibration in Oyo State as camps loyal to Governor Makinde begin positioning ahead of the post-2027 power equation.
