Oyo Concerned Youth Coalition Faults Adelabu, Accuses Ex-Minister of Undermining Party Unity & Traditional Institutions

A coalition of concerned youths in Oyo State has raised concerns over the recent political conduct of a former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, alleging actions capable of undermining unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC) and disrespecting traditional and political leaders in the state.

In a statement issued after a meeting held in Ibadan on Wednesday evening, the group accused Adelabu of engaging in divisive political behaviour following his exit from office and renewed political activities within the state.

The youths alleged that, following what they described as a stalled campaign effort, the former minister had resorted to issuing threats through his associates, including comments made at a recent endorsement event held in his local government area.

According to the group, supporters at the event were also accused of making disrespectful remarks toward the traditional institution in Ibadanland, as well as senior leaders of the APC in Oyo State. The coalition described the alleged conduct as unacceptable and capable of creating tension within the political space.

“Since obtaining the APC nomination form, Chief Adelabu’s actions have consistently fostered division within the party, reflecting an attitude of ‘if it is not me, the party must scatter,’” the statement read, adding that such behaviour was “reminiscent of past political alignments and campaigns against party interests.”

The group further urged the former minister to focus on presenting a clear policy direction and highlight his achievements while serving as Minister of Power, rather than engaging in actions they believe could deepen internal party divisions.

The coalition also criticised his political realignments, questioning what it described as a sudden alignment with certain political blocs and leaders within the state, which they claimed he had previously opposed or distanced himself from.

Speaking on behalf of the group, spokesperson Mr. Damola Agbaje said the youths remain committed to supporting a candidate endorsed by party elders for the APC ticket in the forthcoming election, but stressed their opposition to Adelabu’s ambition.

“We will not support Chief Adebayo Adelabu’s ambition. We remain committed to the candidate endorsed by our elders, provided it is not him,” Agbaje stated.

The group reaffirmed its call for unity, discipline, and respect for both political and traditional institutions as Oyo State’s political activities gather momentum ahead of future elections.
