‎May 2: A Date of Destiny — Opatoki Marks Birthday with Renewed Vision for Oyo’s Future

‎As the world reflects on the historical significance of May 2, a date marked by defining global milestones, Otunba Oluseye Nathaniel Oladosu Opatoki, a leading governorship aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State for the 2027 elections, has commemorated his birthday with a message of purpose, reflection, and renewed commitment to public service.

‎In a personally signed statement made available to journalists in Ibadan on Saturday, the philanthropist, grassroots mobilizer, and respected party stalwart described May 2 as a “date of destiny”, one that continues to inspire hope, resilience, and transformation across generations.

‎“Today, I celebrate not just my birth, but a date that carries profound global meaning,” Opatoki stated. “May 2 reminds us that every new dawn holds the promise of transformation, both for individuals and for nations.”

‎Highlighting the historical weight of the day, he referenced key global events associated with May 2, including the 2011 operation that reshaped global security conversations, the 1611 publication of the King James Version of the Bible which influenced faith and literature worldwide, and the 1933 surge in global fascination with the Loch Ness legend, an enduring symbol of human curiosity.

‎He also pointed to cultural and sporting milestones, including the 2015 “Fight of the Century” between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao, as well as the observance of Israel’s Independence anniversary on May 2 in certain calendar years.

‎“From defining political moments to cultural landmarks, May 2 reflects the triumph of purpose over circumstance,” he added. “It reminds us that dates are not mere markers of time, they are opportunities to shape history through our actions.”

‎Turning his focus to Oyo State, Opatoki described his birthday as a moment of introspection and recommitment to service.

‎He reaffirmed his 2027 governorship ambition as a “covenant with the people”, centered on inclusive development, youth empowerment, agricultural advancement, and industrial growth.

‎“Oyo deserves leadership that understands the urgency of now, leadership that builds on the foundation already laid by Seyi Makinde and places people at the heart of governance,” he said.

‎“As I mark another year, I renew my dedication to a prosperous Oyo where no one is left behind. Birth is not merely about age, it is about purpose. And my purpose is to serve.”

‎The Ibadan born politician also praised the resilience of Oyo residents amid Nigeria’s economic challenges, commending market women, artisans, civil servants, farmers, and youths for sustaining the state’s economy through determination and hard work.

‎He assured them that his governance blueprint would prioritize job creation, affordable education, quality healthcare, and enhanced security.

‎Opatoki further called for unity within the PDP and across the political landscape in Oyo State, emphasizing that the 2027 elections should be driven by ideas, competence, and proven track records rather than division.

‎“As we celebrate today, I ask for your prayers, for myself, for Oyo State, and for Nigeria. May 2 teaches us that with courage and unity, destinies are fulfilled and nations are built,” he said.

‎Meanwhile, goodwill messages have continued to pour in from political associates, community leaders, youth groups, and supporters across the state, many describing Opatoki as a bridge builder, a compassionate philanthropist, and a leader deeply connected to the grassroots.

‎Widely recognized for his humanitarian efforts and strong community presence, Otunba Opatoki remains a prominent contender for the PDP gubernatorial ticket ahead of the 2027 elections in Oyo State.
