‎Workers’ Day: Oyo Government Sustains ₦18 Billion Monthly Salaries to 130,000 Workers, Ranks 4th in Workers’ Welfare



‎The Oyo State Government says it now pays over ₦18 billion monthly in workers’ salaries, describing the achievement as part of ongoing reforms to improve workers’ welfare.

‎The disclosure was made during a courtesy visit by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, to the Oyo State Secretariat of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Ibadan as part of the 2027 Workers’ Day celebration.

‎Oyelade praised the Oyo State NLC, describing the union as one of the most progressive and mature labour bodies in recent times.

‎He said the current leadership has maintained a harmonious relationship with government, noting that Oyo State now has over 130,000 workers, making it the largest public workforce in the South-West, South-East and South-South regions.

‎Speaking during the courtesy visit, Oyo NLC Chairman, Comrade Kayode Martins, commended the state government for improving gratuity payments and reducing pension arrears.

‎Martins further stated that Oyo State has moved from 32nd to 4th position nationally in workers’ welfare rankings, following the implementation of a minimum wage above the federal ₦70,000 benchmark and other reforms.
