Again: President Trump Escapes Assassination Attempt After Gunman Opens Fire at Correspondents’ Dinner
US President Donald Trump was hurriedly escorted out of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner at the Washington Hilton Hotel on Saturday night after a lone gunman allegedly fired multiple shots inside the ballroom.
Panic broke out as attendees ducked under tables and sought cover while gunshots rang through the venue.
According to Trump, one Secret Service agent was shot at close range but survived because of a bulletproof vest.
Hundreds of guests remained inside the ballroom for nearly an hour before security officials declared the area safe and cleared the hall.
The suspect, who was reportedly carrying multiple weapons, was taken into custody at the scene by Secret Service personnel.
Authorities identified him as Cole Tomas Allen, 31, from Torrance, California. He is expected to appear in court on Monday.
Allen was reportedly staying at the hotel and worked part-time as a teacher in California.
Trump later posted a photo of the suspect on his Truth Social account.
The incident echoes a previous security scare in July 2024, when Trump was rushed off stage during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania after a gunman opened fire into the crowd. Trump sustained an injury to one of his ears during that attack.
