Impeachment Saga in Oyo State: Lawmakers Meet at Governor’s House, Tell Their Side of Story, Pledge Solidarity
Lawmakers in the Oyo State House of Assembly have begun speaking out one after the other following a high-level meeting held at the Governor’s House, amid growing tension over an alleged impeachment plot within the state’s political landscape.
The meeting, which brought together members of the Assembly, comes in the wake of claims that certain individuals were working behind the scenes to create disunity between the legislature and the executive arm of government.
While some lawmakers like the deputy speaker and others have publicly addressed the situation, distancing themselves from any alleged plot, others have remained noticeably silent.
One of the lawmakers to break his silence is the Chief Whip of the House, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola, who issued a detailed public statement clarifying his position.

He firmly denied any involvement in activities capable of destabilizing the peace of the state, emphasizing that he was neither invited to nor consulted about any such arrangements.
According to his statement, discussions at the meeting also touched on claims made by the Speaker of the House regarding separate approaches allegedly made to him by prominent figures, including traditional and political leaders, in connection with his political ambitions.
The Speaker reportedly declined all offers, including financial inducements.
Hon. Oyekola used the opportunity to reaffirm his loyalty to Governor Seyi Makinde, stressing his commitment to the administration and to the continued unity and progress of Oyo State.
He maintained that his allegiance remains unwavering and that he would not partake in any action that could undermine the government.
“As lawmakers continue to speak, it is becoming clear that many are eager to publicly distance themselves from the controversy,” a source close to the Assembly noted, adding that the silence of some members has further fueled speculation about the depth of the alleged plot.
Political observers say the unfolding situation highlights underlying tensions within the state’s political structure, even as public declarations of support for the governor appear to be strengthening his position.
With more lawmakers expected to make their positions known in the coming days, attention remains fixed on the Assembly as stakeholders await further developments in what is shaping up to be a significant political episode in Oyo State.
