Oyo Govt. to Commence Renovation of Olodo Hajj Camp, Targets 2026 Pilgrims Airlift from Samuel Ladoke Akintola International Airport
The Upgrading Committee of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola International Airport has intensified efforts to ensure that the airlift of 2026 Hajj-intending pilgrims from Oyo State departs from the airport, in line with the vision of the Seyi Makinde-led administration.
Speaking during a visit to the leadership of the Oyo State Muslim Pilgrims’ Welfare Board and an inspection of facilities at the Olodo Hajj Camp on Tuesday, the Committee Chairman, Abimbola Adekanmbi, stated that the inspection was aimed at identifying areas requiring urgent attention.
He stressed the importance of putting in place essential facilities at both the Hajj Camp and the airport ahead of the visit by assessment teams from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, and other regulatory agencies, noting that this would facilitate prompt approval.
Hon. Adekanmbi also pledged personal support toward the renovation of critical facilities, pending the governor’s approval and the release of funds.
He further called for synergy among all relevant stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of plans for 2026 Hajj pilgrims to depart from the Alakia Airport. He urged the Board to submit its proposal promptly to enable renovation work to commence without delay.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Board, Wahab Atere Hashim Olamide, commended the efforts of Governor Makinde and the committee on the ongoing airport upgrade, describing the pace of work as commendable.
Sheikh Atere disclosed that the Board has made significant progress, which he attributed to the continued support of the governor. He also highlighted the Board’s achievements and challenges, while appreciating Hon. Adekanmbi for his support and commitment.
