Several Killed as Gunmen Attack Plateau Community

Several residents have been killed following an attack by gunmen in Angwan Rukuba, a community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

TheCable gathered that the incident occurred around 8 p.m. on Sunday at a popular bar in the area, where victims were reportedly caught in sporadic gunfire from unidentified armed men suspected to be cultists.

At least 12 people have been confirmed dead, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries. The injured were reportedly evacuated to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

In response to the attack, the Plateau State Government has imposed a 48-hour curfew in Jos North LGA.

Joyce Lohya Ramnap, the state commissioner for information, described the incident as a “tragic security breach” and announced the curfew in a statement.

“The Plateau State Government, in conjunction with security agencies, hereby announces the imposition of a 48-hour curfew within Jos North Local Government Area with immediate effect, commencing from midnight of March 29 to April 1, 2026,” the statement read.

The government, under Governor Caleb Mutfwang, condemned the attack, describing it as “barbaric and unprovoked,” and assured residents that efforts were underway to apprehend those responsible.

Residents were urged to remain calm, stay vigilant, and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information to aid ongoing investigations.

Meanwhile, troops of Sector 1, Operation Enduring Peace, have been deployed to the area to prevent further escalation.

Security operatives have since cordoned off major access routes to the community and directed residents to remain indoors, while a coordinated search operation is underway to track down the attackers.
