‎Beat Woman and be in Trouble: Governor Makinde Pledges Stronger Political, Budgetary Backing to End Gender-based Violence in Oyo State



‎Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has assured that his administration will continue to provide strong political leadership, sustained budgetary support, and firm executive backing for laws and policies aimed at preventing gender-based violence (GBV) in the state.

‎The Governor gave the assurance while receiving representatives of the Nigerian Governors’ Spouses Forum, on an advocacy courtesy visit at the State Secretariat, Ibadan.

‎The delegation was led by his wife, Mrs. Tamunomini Makinde.

‎The visit, themed Advocacy for Prevention: Shifting Social Norms and Strengthening State Commitment to End Gender-Based Violence, focused on deepening state-level commitment and strengthening legislative ownership of GBV prevention efforts.

‎Governor Makinde during the visit, pledged to work closely with the Oyo State House of Assembly to ensure adequate budgetary allocation for GBV prevention and response mechanisms.

‎Earlier, wife of the Governor, Mrs. Tamunomini Makinde, called for sustained commitment to preventing gender-based violence, describing it as not only a social problem but also a development challenge, governance issue, and silent economic drain.

‎She urged the state government to prioritize GBV prevention through deliberate policies and adequate funding for prevention and response mechanisms.

‎The advocacy visit forms part of an initiative by the Nigerian Governors’ Spouses Forum, in partnership with Non-governmental Organizations, aimed at strengthening legislative engagement and reinforcing state commitment to ending gender-based violence in Oyo State.
