‎Retaliation: Nigerian Army Turns Water to Blood, Sends 16 ISWAP Terrorists Unreturned Errand

‎The Nigerian Army says its troops have killed 16 ISWAP terrorists during an offensive against insurgents in the Komala axis of Konduga LGA in Borno state.

‎The soldiers, under the north-east joint task force Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), also rescued 11 kidnap victims along the Buratai-Kamuya road and the Chibok–Damboa axis of the state.

‎The development was shared on Wednesday in a statement issued by Sani Uba, the media information officer of the north-east joint task force, and shared on the army’s X page.

‎He said the troops “have significantly degraded terrorist capabilities, disrupted their logistics, and reaffirmed OPHK’s unwavering commitment to dismantling terrorist networks across the North East region”.

‎Speaking of the operation, Uba said ISWAP terrorists had, on February 5, 2026, a few minutes before midnight, carried out “a failed attack” on a forward operating base (FOB) in Auno. The assault was thwarted with “disciplined firepower and tactical precision”.

‎On February 9, 2026, troops, alongside members of the civilian joint task force, launched “a bold counter-offensive” along the Komala axis in Konduga LGA.

‎“The troops engaged the retreating terrorists up to the Gidan Kaji axis, neutralising sixteen (16) terrorists and forcing scores to flee in disarray with severe injuries. Equally, troops recovered over twenty (20) bicycles, a large cache of logistic items, weapons, and other supplies critical to terrorist operations,” the statement added.

‎“In further blow to terrorist logistics nodes, troops arrested suspected ISWAP logistics suppliers conveying large quantity of drugs meant for terrorists around Bukarti axis same day.”

‎Uba also said on the same day, troops foiled a terrorist kidnap attempt and rescued victims.

‎“After detection of terrorist activities, troops swiftly pursued, compelling the terrorists to abandon their victims and withdraw into the bushes. Two (2) victims, Mallam Idris Adamu and Mallam Muhammadu Safiyanu, were rescued and safely reunited with families in Buratai,” he said.

‎“Furthermore, in response to a distress call along Chibok–Damboa axis on 9 February 2026, troops rescued 9 kidnapped victims successfully.”

‎The statement said the successes “underscore OPHK continued commitment in support of humanitarian efforts and protection of civilians”.
