Oyo Government Declares February 18 School Open Day, To Remove 10 Marks From Students Whose Parents Fail to Attend
The Oyo State Government has made school Open Day compulsory across the state, announcing a stiff penalty of 10 marks deduction from Continuous Assessment for any student whose parent or guardian fails to attend.
The directive was issued by the State Commissioner for Education, Honourable Segun Olayiwola, as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen academic performance and parental involvement in schools.
According to the Commissioner, while the state government continues to invest in education and teachers are carrying out their responsibilities diligently, parents and guardians must also take active roles in monitoring the academic progress and general wellbeing of their children and wards.
He disclosed that Wednesday, February 18, has been designated as Open Day in all schools across Oyo State. On that day, parents and guardians are mandated to visit schools to review their children’s academic records and overall development.
Honourable Olayiwola warned that any student whose parent or guardian fails to show up on Open Day will automatically lose 10 marks from their Continuous Assessment, stressing that the measure is intended to enforce seriousness and accountability.
He further revealed that he would personally go round schools in the state to monitor and inspect compliance with the directive.
The Commissioner also cautioned students against attempting to beat the system, noting that any student found presenting a fake parent or guardian would face additional sanctions.
He concluded by reaffirming the Oyo State Government’s commitment to investing more resources and intensifying efforts to provide a more conducive and effective learning environment for students across the state.
