Oyo Marks Teachers’ Day, Highlights Recruitment And Welfare Reforms
The Oyo State Government has marked the 2026 Teachers’ Day by highlighting measures implemented to strengthen the teaching workforce, improve teachers’ welfare and address manpower gaps in public primary and secondary schools across the state.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the government said over 21,000 teaching and non-teaching personnel had been recruited since 2019.
The figure includes 5,000 fresh secondary school teachers, the conversion of 2,000 non-teaching personnel to teaching positions under TESCOM in the administration’s first year, as well as 7,000 teachers recruited through SUBEB and 7,500 through TESCOM in 2025.
The Commissioner commended the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, for its partnership with the government in advancing education, citing its involvement in teacher training and retraining, quiz competitions for secondary school students and engagement with relevant government agencies.
The government urged teachers across the state to remain committed to their responsibility of shaping the future through quality education.
