Tinubu Can Rule Nigeria From Anywhere, Presidency Insists

The Presidency has insisted that President Bola Tinubu can continue to govern Nigeria from anywhere, dismissing concerns over his prolonged absence from the country.

The President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, stated this on Sunday while responding to criticisms over Tinubu’s extended vacation after the expiration of his official 3-week vacation period.

Onanuga said the President was hale and hearty and did not need to be physically present in Abuja to perform his constitutional responsibilities.

His comment followed concerns raised by some Nigerians and opposition figures over the President’s whereabouts, particularly as he was expected to have returned to the country the previous week.

Responding to the concerns, Onanuga said, “Nigeria’s President is hale and hearty. He has been on a working vacation, which he is perfectly entitled to.

“In this digital age, he does not need to be physically present in Abuja to do the work for which he was elected in 2023.

“And we have seen that he has indeed been working, meeting investors in France, most recently facilitating a $7 billion deep-sea port in Ogun Waterside, an initiative of the Ogun State Government.”

The Presidency maintained that Tinubu’s continued engagements outside the country did not prevent him from carrying out his official responsibilities.

The development comes amid calls from opposition figures for greater information about the President’s whereabouts and activities since the expiration of his officially announced vacation period.
