Oyo Government Allocates Nearly #2 Billion To Support Healthcare Coverage For Vulnerable Residents
The Oyo State Government has allocated nearly N2 billion under its Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery, SAFER, programme to support healthcare coverage for vulnerable residents across the state.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Adewumi Ajetunmobi, disclosed this while speaking at a stakeholders/Partners’ meeting in Ibadan, saying the intervention was targeted at indigent and vulnerable residents who may face difficulties accessing healthcare services because of financial constraints.
She said, “We have provisions, what we call basic healthcare provision from the Federal Government, with state owned support. They are meant for indigent and vulnerable people. Some people can benefit from basic healthcare provision, including the vulnerable, children under five and the elderly.”
Ajetunmobi added, “Under the Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery, SAFER, some amount of money has been budgeted, I think close to N2 billion, for this same set of people, vulnerable persons, the elderly, children less than five and pregnant women, so that they can get enrolled and insured.”
She explained that the insurance coverage would enable beneficiaries to access healthcare services and available treatment packages at designated health facilities, stressing the importance of ensuring that vulnerable residents were not excluded from essential medical care.
According to her, the intervention is part of the state government’s efforts to expand access to affordable healthcare and provide support for residents who may otherwise struggle to meet the cost of medical treatment.
The commissioner said the government would continue to work towards expanding healthcare coverage to more eligible residents, particularly those in vulnerable categories, as part of efforts to improve access to quality healthcare across Oyo State.
