S’Court Verdict: Makinde is the Voice for the Masses, Defender of Democracy Says Ally, Rita Orji
…Hails Governor’s Resilience
The ally of Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, and a former member of the House of Representatives, Barrister (Hon.) Rita Orji, has described the Supreme Court ruling on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership crisis as a strong affirmation of constitutional order within the party, while commending Governor Makinde’s democratic stance and resilience.
Reacting to the apex court’s judgement which dismissed the cross-appeal by all the names mentioned over alleged anti-party activities, Rita said the judgment has reinforced the authority of legitimate party structures and restored order within the party.
In a statement made available to journalists on Thursday, the international business icon stated that the ruling reflects the importance of discipline and adherence to due process, adding that it supports efforts to strengthen internal democracy within political parties.
Hon Rita praised Governor Makinde for his consistent commitment to democratic principles within the PDP, describing him as a voice for the masses and a defender of democracy, noting that his leadership has helped promote stability and accountability within the party.
“Makinde is a voice for the masses and a defender of democracy,” Orji stated while commending his leadership style within the PDP.
According to her, Makinde’s role has been central in resisting tendencies that could undermine internal democracy, stressing that his stance continues to position him as a key figure in strengthening Nigeria’s multi-party system.
The distinguished former lawmaker also recalled her recent mobilisation of members of the Igbo community in Oyo State in support of Governor Makinde, describing it as part of efforts to encourage inclusiveness and political harmony.
“The Supreme Court ruling reflects the importance of discipline and adherence to due process in political parties,” she added.
The respected political figure further noted that the Supreme Court ruling represents a defining moment for the PDP as it seeks to rebuild trust, enforce discipline, and strengthen its internal structures going forward.
“Governor Makinde’s leadership continues to inspire confidence because it is rooted in inclusiveness, fairness, and stability,” she further stated.
The seasoned democratic advocate urged PDP stakeholders to close ranks and support ongoing efforts to reposition the party, adding that sustained unity, respect for the rule of law, and strong leadership would be critical in restoring public confidence and ensuring the party remains competitive in future elections.
“And on his mandate we shall stand not the other way, the silent and peaceful voice that restricts coercion from the high and mighty.”
